Common Whirlpool Washer Problems And Their Solutions

Overview

Having Whirlpool washer problems? By now, you are probably summing up the amount of money the repair is going to cost you. This is one of the biggest fears of washing machine owners. When it breaks down sooner than expected, we start to doubt if we have invested wrongly on this piece of appliance.

I hate to break this to you but most of the modern washing machines today might break down sooner than expected. That is because the features, the fast spin speed and many other modern technologies integrated in it will break down easily.

But to help you out in this problem, here are some of the Whirlpool washer problems often encountered and the possible solutions for them.

Whirlpool Washer Problem # 1 – Drum Is Not Spinning

This is one of the most common Whirlpool washing machine problems. But if it is any consolation, this is also a common problem with other washing machines especially the front loaders. The problem is usually in its drive belt. It might have worn out or there might be kinks to it you need to smooth out. In that case, you should open up the motor area where the drive belt is.

Before you do that, ensure your safety first. Get the washer manual and find out how you can open up the motor panel. Make sure all the excess water in the washer drum has been removed. Unplug it as well. Wait for at least 15 minutes before checking up your washing machine because some washers still produce electric shocks a few minutes after unplugging them.

Once you have opened up the motor area, find out if there are damages to the drive belt. If there are damages, you may need to replace it. Contact the customer service of Whirlpool and purchase a replacement belt. You might want to whip out your wallet and hire a repair man to install the new belt for you if you are not handy with washing machines.

Whirlpool Washer Problem # 2 – F28 error

You are using your washing machine and then suddenly it starts to flash F28 errors! What is happening? According to the manufacturer, if you experience this problem, your washer has Serial communication error. That means there is an obstruction between the signal of the Central Control Unit and the Motor Control Unit of your washing machine.

Programming washer problems might be caused by the wirings in the control panel of the washer. First, you should remove the plug of your machine before doing anything major on it. Make sure the control panel and the washer drum have been wiped out dry. Using the washer’s manual as your guide, find out how you can gain access to its MCU. Find out if there are damaged wire harness connections. Also check the grounding switches if they are connected properly. After checking the connections, go to the drive system and check for signs of wear and tear. If there are any, you should have it replaced before using your washer. This method is better left to professionals. After solving the problem, plug your washer back on and test it. Do a diagnostic test by running a quick wash cycle. This is not a simple method so if you still have a washer warranty, use it.

Whirlpool Washer Problem # 3 – The Suds Do Not Get Properly Washed Out

The rinsing and the spinning cycle is finished but you still find your clothes drenched in soap suds. This becomes one of the most common Whirlpool washer problems because many people fail to use only HE detergent. High efficiency washers only need a small amount of HE detergent. These types of detergent do not produce that much suds but they still clean quite efficiently.

Try to use only ½ tablespoon of your detergent. Not only are you going to preserve your clothes and lengthen the life of your washing machine, you can also conserve on detergent. If your washing machine has an extra rinse cycle, use it for further rinsing.

Whirlpool Washer Problem # 4 – No Water Detected Error or FH error

First, you need to check the connections of your water hoses, valves and inlets. See to it that they are connected properly. But if this error still keeps in showing, it might not be Whirlpool washer problems but can be water pressure problem. Remember that these modern washing machines only have a specific time allotted for water to be filled up in the washer drum. This is why you need to have a high water pressure in your area. If not much water is running from your water source, the programming cycle of the washer will surely be aborted.

I have a Whirlpool super capacity washer (about 13 years old) in which the drum will tip to the side and let water spill out during the cycle. If it’s held in place, it will run a complete cycle without difficulty.

    What is the fix?
