Kenmore is known in America as one of the great pioneers when it comes to washing machines. With its partnership with Sears, another dependable name when it comes to giving you the best appliances, Kenmore is able to claim that almost one out of every three homes in the United States has a Kenmore appliance in it. Kenmore makes sure to produce the appliances that you, the consumer with a busy lifestyle, really need. From shavers to vacuum cleaners, dishwashers to sterilizers, Kenmore is a company that continues to innovate. It is a leading name when it comes to really taking care of the customer and this quality is really obvious when you have a good old dependable Kenmore washing machine inside your home.

Short History of Kenmore

Sears first started its partnership with Kenmore back in 1927 with the first Kenmore product, an agitator type of wringer washing machine. Kenmore continued to specialize in laundry devices and less than a decade after it first started selling washing machines, 1 million Kenmore laundry products have already been sold.

After World War II, the Kenmore Harmony House appliances were developed for American homes that were starting to get more reliant on the comfort and ease of use of electrical appliances. Kenmore continued with its history of creating the best washing machines as well as produced new products that reflected the demand of American households.

Common Features

The washing machine models that Kenmore creates offer the best in innovation and ease-of-use features. An innovative feature is that of Kenmore’s SteamCare technology which was integrated into the machines to make the need to pre-treat laundry a thing of the past. There are also audio-visual controls in many of the washing machines that would tell you what settings you have chosen for the wash and alerts you when the wash is finished. There are also various automatic settings like the automatic water level settings that allow just the right amount of water to be used in the wash. That makes the water use of the machines more efficient than many of the other washing machines in the market today.

Performance/Ratings

Many of Kenmore’s new washing machines are energy star compliant, which makes sure that the washing machines save as much energy as possible. The Kenmore HE5t Steam King Size Capacity Front Load washer consumes an average of 151-kilowatt hours per year. The Kenmore 3.1 cubic feet coin-operated washer for those who wish to start laundromat businesses has an even lower average yearly kilowatt-hour count of 125 kilowatt hours. In the Kenmore web site, the reviews for its washing machines’ performances are available, so you can pick for yourself which particular models would suit your particular needs.

Popular Kenmore Models

Some of the more popular Kenmore washing machines recently developed include the aforementioned HE5t SteamCare model. Because of its King Size capacity, the washing machine is able to take care of a huge capacity load, which allows you to finish your laundry in a shorter time. The model also uses the timed oxi technology, which releases stain-fighters into your wash. The White Kenmore Elite King Size Capacity Plus Front Load Washer is also a popular choice with its 1300-rpm maximum speed and built-in water heater for those special laundry needs.

I purchased a Kenmore toploading Oasis HE model 3 1/2 years ago. This machine with the matching dryer is in the mid $2k range (tax included). Right off the bat I started experiencing problems with the machine. Error codes started poping up on the display. We had the control board replaced under warrantee. A year later the water pump broke, 3 months later the control board went out again getting the famed “F1″ error. This time there was a class action lawsuit and a recall for the control board so it was changed free of charge, only to have the pump go out within days after the control board was changed. I’m done with Kenmore – seriously – they would have to pay me to put one of the machines in my house again. Never in my life will I own another Kenmore washer/dryer.

For 12 years prior to this machine I owned a Kenmore washer/dryer and was very pleased, which is why I bought the Oasis HE. Somewhere along the line Sears forgot that it’s more difficult to obtain new customers than it is to keep existing/repeat customers, all you have to do is keep making good products with good QC and it’s an easy job. But once lost it’s damaging to your reputation and very difficult to turn around. I’m not the only one that experienced this, search Oasis and F1 error in google. Buyer beware!

Thanks for you comment as I am in the market for a new washer and dryer. I too have had a Kenmore washer and dryer set for the past 15 years with only minor problems but I will definitely steer clear of them now.

Stay away from Kenmore or Craftsman anything. Cheap crap.
I have been burned too many times!

We also purchased a Kenmore Elite Oasis HE without the agitator…last July 2009. Not really happy with the way it was cleaning but figured it was the learning curve to a new type of machine. Ratings reports were all positive so must be me. Finally called in December for repair. First repair guy did not even know required HE detergent.Scary.Second repair guy said working fine but use heavy duty cycle for everything, and told 2nd rinse everything and blamed problems on detergents. Now it is wearing out clothes and towels at a rapid rate, not cleaning them properly, I was my towels completely thru twice because rinsing in this machine is horrible. The 14 year old agitator I threw out cleaned better and rinsed better than this thing. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MACHINE.

I had never owned a Kenmore but several friends told me that they had one and never had any problems. So, I spent over $2k and purchased the Calypso Elite washer and dryer. It was the biggest mistake I ever made. Almost immediately after getting it there was a recall. Sears came out and replaced the entire washing machine. From the very beginning I have had issues with it releasing bleach at the wrong time – even several loads later. This has cost me over $1,000 in damage to colored clothing, sheets and towels. The washing machine also tears up towels in no time. Now the entire unit is literally rusting away. The dryer has always had an issue with turning itself off when the clothing is still wet. I need to buy a new set but cannot seem to find a brand that I haven’t read bad things about. I do know that I will never buy another Kenmore again.

My five and a half year old cheapest/simplest Kenmore front loading washer just gave up the ghost. The drum supports broke and the fix would cost 80% of the cost of a new machine. Guess what! I am buying a Bosch. Before my Kenmore broke I was pleased with it. The dryer is excellent. No complaints there.

KENMORE ELITE LARGE CAPACITY TOP LOAD CATALYST WASHING MACHINE IS A WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!! After only 4 years of GENTLE USE the motor and control panel have both gone out at the same time, and going to cost $348.00 to fix!!! I certainly expect more out of a $850-900.00 appliance! Not to mention since I’ve been waiting on an estimate to fix my machine I’ve had to do laundry at the local laundry mat, I’ve realized my clothes smell and look awesome, I never realized what an AWFUL JOB the KENMORE ELITE was doing!
