Gibson Washing Machine Reviews
Why Buy Gibson?
There are actually only two good reasons as to why anyone would want to buy Gibson washing machines. Firstly, if you are looking for a machine that no one else will have, and secondly, if you want a machine that you can repair yourself without calling in a repair man.
Short History of Gibson
You will find it impossible to purchase a new Gibson washing machine, as they are no manufactured anymore. Even in their heyday, they were a rarity as the Gibson appliance company focused its work on other kitchen appliances like refrigerators. Today, Gibson is part of the Electrolux family of appliance manufacturers, and is almost totally encompassed by the Frigidaire brand. So if you are looking for a new machine to replace your old Gibson, the closest you are going to come to a brand new machine is one with Frigidaire emblazoned on it.
Common Features
Traditionally, Gibson washing machines were top loaders and were very basic in the make up. This though didn’t stop many people buying them as they were easy to operate and fix if they went wrong. Even today, it is possible to purchase parts that will work well in the machines, just in case you want to repair your antique rather than purchase a new one. Looking to the modern incarnations, the majorities of Frigidaire washing machines are front loaders, and come with a wide range of washing cycles in line with what is expected of a modern machine. Frigidaire is well known for their quality when it comes to manufacturing and the long life of their machines.
Performance/Ratings
Old Gibson washing machines were not that efficient when it came to washing clothes, but at the time of manufacturing it wasn’t a major consideration. As such, they are poor on energy usage and also water usage when used in a modern home. A modern Frigidaire machine is going to feel much more at home using less energy and less water to do more washing. Most of the new Frigidaire machines comply with the Energy Star standards, although other makes still hold a bit of an edge in general.
Popular Gibson Models
There is no such thing as a popular Gibson washing machine today. There are still some machines working away in people’s home, and you may see them advertised for sale in local newspapers or internet listing sites but they are few and far between. That is not to say that they are not worth taking on for the right price, as they do last a long time. Modern Gibson machines though come in the Frigidaire range where front loaders are extremely popular. The most popular machine is probably the Affinity ATF6000F; it does everything you want from a washing machine and is extremely quiet when it is being used, even when spinning at 1050rpm. Go for a Frigidaire rather than trying to hunt out an old Gibson washing machine.
