Short History of ZANUSSI

Zanussi is an Italian brand that has traces till 1858 where you found terracotta heaters being sold in the brand name, ‘Becchi.’ This company is a famous brand in Europe and is most famous for its distinctive designs and innovative products.

The company was however, later bought by the company Electrolux in the year 1984 with which the brand has been rebranded as Zanussi-Electrolux, with other Electrolux brand names.

Since then, most of Zanussi products have common components and parts with the Electrolux range of products. Even the ‘John Lewis’ branded machines sold in UK were rebranded Zanussi products with the acquisition.

Common Features

Most Zanussi washing machines comes with a small drum and a top spin speed that reaches 1000 rpm which can be comparatively slow to many users. However, this slow spin speed is quieter, is more stable and induces less wear and tear for your clothes. This means you need not worry much about super fast spins spoiling your clothes.

In addition to this, it is basically another cold fill only washing machine where there is no hot water valve found in it. This is a feature found in most quality washing machines, and is something that will soon be followed in all washing machines.

It comes with a large door and a well designed door handle. The soap dispenser is however, rather small. And in case the machine breaks down because of too much water, there is a water pump filter and draining hose found in it.

Performance/Ratings

On the overall, Zanussi washers comes with few features, but compensates this with a high standard of quality that is not found in other machines. However the machine is better suited for a single person, or a childless couple who does not have many clothes to wash.

This is because the slow spin speed and small drum of the Zanussi washing machine makes it an unsuitable choice for larger families having lots of washing to do.

It is a better choice for light loads, and proves to offer good value for money too. In a nutshell, this machine is great for you if you are not bothered about flashing lights and features, and don’t need your clothes to come out as dry as possible.

The more popular models of Zanussi washing machines are the Zanussi ZWF 12079 with numerous washing cycles for the entire range of modern fabrics. Its temperature can also be varied, while most of its washes have an eco setting using less of water and energy. It took me ages to choose between them, and to be honest they are all fairly similar in specifications. All take a load of up to 13.23lb and all consume a similar amount of water and electricity when going through their cycles. All three of the 1600 spin washing machines are a B energy efficiency rating.

The Zanussi WJD1667W

So what made me plump for the Zanussi WJD1667W? Well it was a case of reliability in the end. I found people who had had their Zanussi’s for a number of years. To be honest I have never had a Whirlpool or Hotpoint that has lasted me over two years before. I am far from an expert user of the washing machine, and thankfully the Zanussi 1600 spin washing machine takes a lot of the thought and knowledge out of the whole process. The options available on the electronic display determine what spin speed the machine is going to operate.

This means that it can become a 1600 spin washing machine when being used for spin cycles. At this speed it is hardly surprising that you may experience some vibration and noise, although overall it is probably the quietest machine I have ever owned. The Zanussi also had the benefits over the Hotpoint in that it is a combined washer and dryer. There is no need for an additional outlet for drying as the steam just condenses within the washing machine itself.

A drying cycle can add up to 100 minutes on to the time taken but the Zanussi does give options of a delayed start or Night Wash that means that it can be programmed to start whenever you want it to. There are a couple of nice safety features built into the Zanussi WJD1667W that I find extremely useful. As I have a couple of young children, the fact that I can temporarily disable the door closure catch, means I have no worries about one of my children getting trapped in the washing machine when I am not looking.

Connected to this mechanism is the inability to open the door when the machine is in wash mode. It is impossible to open the door when there is water in the drum, again no concern about finding my laundry room flooded when one of my kids decides to try and open the door. The only problem I have ever encountered with my Zanussi 1600 spin washing machine is that occasionally it has an issue in draining itself. Twice in about 6 months I have had to manually drain the machine. No hardship really and if that is the only fault I ever encounter I will be more than satisfied. It is definitely a good choice to make.
