Short History of Brandt

Brandt Appliance is one of the best known brands of appliances in France, as well as in the rest of Europe. It was founded over a hundred years ago, in 1902, in Paris, France. In 1956, Brandt merged with Hotchkiss, forming the company Hotchkiss-Brandt. The Brandt washing machine has 22 wash presets for maximum control over your laundry cycle. It also offers spin speeds up to 1200 rpm and settings for intense wash, quick wash, or wool wash. It has either five or six pounds capacity, depending on which model you get, and can be either a slender 15 inches wide or a generous 23.5 inches wide. Most Brandt models have an energy efficiency rating of A, the highest rating available. You can also get the drying feature which helps conserve space, though it brings the energy efficiency rating down to a D.

Performance/Ratings

Reviews were difficult to find in typical American sources; perhaps because Brandt’s biggest market is European. Some reviews felt that the scarcity of information concerning Brandt washing machines made it difficult fully to research the brand. Such a lack of information will make it difficult for Brandt to succeed in a North American market where it has only begun to get a foothold.

Popular Models

Brandt washing machines come in four different models—two in the front-load style and two in the top-load style. The front load style machines have very similar specifications, including a six pound capacity, plastic interior tub, white color, and automatic water levels. The main difference between them is that one has a faster and more efficient spin cycle, which gets clothes more fully spun dry during washing. The top-load washers take up less space and have a smaller capacity of five pounds and a slower spin cycle than the front-load washers. The top-load model also comes in white. Brandt also makes a washer/dryer which is capable of washing and drying the same load consecutively up to three kilograms.
