I decided to go for a front loader to make the best use of the limited space I had available. The front loader allows me to have a work top running over it, unlike with my old Kenmore top loader. I had to do a lot of research online and in some stores before I ended up with the LG, and compared a number of the other 1200 spin washing machines on the market for instance the Whirlpool WFW9400S. It ended up being a close call between the two, although the LG edged it on price.

I love the display on this 1200 spin washing machine. There are seven washing programs available, including cotton, delicates and hand wash, which means that whatever load I put in, I know it is going to be cleaned to a very high standard. Read the instruction manual though if your results are not what you expect, it specifically asks for HE Detergent.

There are also six speeds that take this machine from a 400 to a 1200 spin washing machine. Although my personal favorite aspect of this LG machine is the time remaining display, which saves me hanging around every time I think it is going to finish the wash. The three dispensers; Fabric Softener, Bleach and Pre-Wash make me confident that there is going to be an even dispense of liquid.

Be prepared to see your electric and water bills reduced, the machine is the most efficient I have ever had. On the water line though, it is important that you have your pipes aligned properly to let the water drain away. I have heard horror stories about water not draining away properly leaving a nasty smell behind. Personally though, I have never had this problem.

It is also extremely quiet although it did take me a few attempts to get the feet level to remove any vibration issues when it was on full spin. I have had a few issues before with my old Kenmore 110.

Now I have been happy with the Kenmore top loaders I have had before, but always found that I could never do as much washing as I wanted in one load. The LG WM0642HW eliminates this issue and the drum has a capacity of 3.83 cu/ft that suits my needs perfectly, and will even comfortably take my bed sheets and towels in one load. As a 1200 spin washing machine the LG can cope with heavy loads as well as my lighter ones.

I would though make sure that there are authorized people in your area just in case anything goes wrong. I have heard of people having warranties but with no one within 200 miles able to service their machine. Also take care with the porcelain top, it can be damaged from spilt detergent.

Our contender is the Hotpoint AQXXF149H 1400 spin washing machine which is a front loader and comes in white or silver with 16 available programs and a 7.5 kg capacity with variable temperature ranges. This comes with spin stability and quiet mode. This includes a wool mode as well.

This also is one of the best values in the U.K as well as both are priced around the same amount. There are some advantages with the Samsung with the child proof locking mechanism.

However, it is up to the purchaser in regards to what kind and what brand name that is to be used. For a really big load, the Hotpoint is the best value for the home. If the quietness option is the one chosen, the Samsung is the best. For children living in the home, the Samsung is the best option.

Price wise, both are around 350.00 pounds sterling. So they are both good values for the money. The main consideration would be size. The Samsung 1400 spin washing machine is the smaller of the two, so if space is indeed an issue, then for a smaller space, the Samsung is the choice. For a larger space, the Hotpoint 1400 spin washing machine is the one to get.

Other regards would be households with small children and the laundry capacity of the washer in question. One is bigger and can hold more loads than the other. This is a primary consideration for households. The water effectiveness is another issue that needs to be evaluated carefully.

Both are energy efficient but Samsung 1400 spin washing machine holds less water than the Hotpoint. It comes down to economics and how it will be used in the household. A careful evaluation of each washer will yield you the results that are best for your household. It is really a matter of choice as to what kind and what brand will be chosen.

It took me ages to choose between them, and to be honest they are all fairly similar in specifications. All take a load of up to 13.23lb and all consume a similar amount of water and electricity when going through their cycles. All three of the 1600 spin washing machines are a B energy efficiency rating.

So what made me plump for the Zanussi WJD1667W? Well it was a case of reliability in the end. I found people who had had their Zanussi’s for a number of years. To be honest I have never had a Whirlpool or Hotpoint that has lasted me over two years before. I am far from an expert user of the washing machine, and thankfully the Zanussi 1600 spin washing machine takes a lot of the thought and knowledge out of the whole process. The options available on the electronic display determine what spin speed the machine is going to operate.

This means that it can become a 1600 spin washing machine when being used for spin cycles. At this speed it is hardly surprising that you may experience some vibration and noise, although overall it is probably the quietest machine I have ever owned. The Zanussi also had the benefits over the Hotpoint in that it is a combined washer and dryer. There is no need for an additional outlet for drying as the steam just condenses within the washing machine itself.

A drying cycle can add up to 100 minutes on to the time taken but the Zanussi does give options of a delayed start or Night Wash that means that it can be programmed to start whenever you want it to. There are a couple of nice safety features built into the Zanussi WJD1667W that I find extremely useful. As I have a couple of young children, the fact that I can temporarily disable the door closure catch, means I have no worries about one of my children getting trapped in the washing machine when I am not looking.

Connected to this mechanism is the inability to open the door when the machine is in wash mode. It is impossible to open the door when there is water in the drum, again no concern about finding my laundry room flooded when one of my kids decides to try and open the door. The only problem I have ever encountered with my Zanussi 1600 spin washing machine is that occasionally it has an issue in draining itself. Twice in about 6 months I have had to manually drain the machine. No hardship really and if that is the only fault I ever encounter I will be more than satisfied. It is definitely a good choice to make.
